Pre-Conference Workshop

An International Conference on Emmanuel Levinas is set to take place here in Manila on 13-15 July 2017. Prof. em. Roger Burggraeve of the KU Leuven is set to give three (3) plenary lectures. The conference will broadly revolve around the theme of social and political philosophy, focusing on Levinas. The main theme, however, extends to studies on difference, alterity, responsibility, intersubjectivity, the good and the beautiful (for aesthetics), Eros and the Feminine, as well as Spirituality and the Other (for philosophy of religion), among others. The workshop and the conference is also open to those who wish to do comparative studies, i.e., Levinas vis-à-vis other philosophies and philosophers (e.g., scholars and commentators, thinkers from his intellectual tradition, thinkers whom he influenced, and thinkers who despite having no direct relation with Levinas could be connected conceptually or theoretically).

In anticipation of this event, the conference convenor, Dr. Leovino Ma. Garcia, has organized a pre-conference workshop. The workshop consists of a series of lectures which could help interested individuals to develop their thoughts for their proposals and possible paper presentations. This is open to all UST philosophy faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students (whether currently enrolled for this term or not), and seminarians. We are also accepting participants who are not from UST, as well as philosophy enthusiasts and independent researchers. However, because of limited seats, we cannot promise to accommodate everyone.
